The little girly always asks in the morning – Daddy’s at work? Mama, you goin’ to work?
And in the past, we’d say, yep, Daddy’s at work, or Mama’s gotta work. But as I would think about it, I’d wonder if she really understands what we do when we go to work.
We’ve never really explained to her yet what it is that we do. As I think about what I want to tell her about my work, I know that I want her to see what I do as valuable, as a service to others, and something that I find my purpose in.
I know that I can tell her about my 9 to 5 job, about how I do find value and purpose in it, that I’m providing a service to people. And I do enjoy what I do on a daily basis for my “day job.”
But I also want her to know that my work goes far beyond my 9 to 5 world. I’m a mama to her and the little guy, and I find purpose and value and joy in that. I help other mamas like me, who are working through their depression and anxiety, through the mental smog that is throwing them off balance, figure out how to navigate this strange life we lead and regain their balance.
I want this little girly, who is always mirroring what her daddy and I do around the house, to know that you can work in a way that lights you up, helps others, gives you a feeling of purpose, and gives value to you and others.
When it comes time for her to start working, start her career, I want her to know that she has choices, that she can forge her own path. And I want the hubby and I to model this for her and the little man every day of our lives.
They deserve to live their purpose and happiness. So do we.
And so do you. And I’d love to help you find that purpose, that balance.
